What news ?
----------
Version 1.4 :
-----------
in KARA.EXE
- MPU401 and serial com support added (-hd=MPU401 or -hd=COMx)
- Light correction in the tempo code
- mouse support (buttons only as remote control)
- shareware screen added (too bad but ...)
- registration mechanism
- setup.exe for configuring the output device
- register.exe for configuring the registration key
- a look improved ...
in KDIR.EXE :
- mouse support
- Some minor corrections.
INSTALLATION of the KaraDos product:
-----------------------------------
create a directory
>mkdir c:\karados
>cd c:\karados
unzip all files .
> unzip or pkunzip kardp14
Apart for the .mid .txt .kar examples, all others
files must be kept in the same directory.
Then type :
> install
answer to questions, then type
> ultramid <return> (GUS user: if you want to use a gus with internal synth.)
> kdir demo <return>
select a mode with the <tab> key (VERY IMPORTANT)
select a song with the up and down arrow keys or mouse
then press enter or left mouse button,
and ... sing
For MPU401 or COM user configure by editing the kara.cfk file
and add the line :
#hd=MPU401
(default address is 330h and can be changed with an environmental
variable MPU401=xxx with xxx the hexadecimal address of the MPU)
(no interruption needed)
or use setup.exe
For serial output:
#hd=COMx (with x = 1 or 2 or 3 or 4)
or use setup.exe
Notice that the hanshake is done with RTS/CTS signals. The 38400
bauds is too speed for midi and the external box (portman for example)
has to slow down the stream.
For Gravis Ultrasound (standart, Max or ACE)
and Sound Blaster, the detection is automatic with environmental
variables ULTRASND=xxx,y,z,a,b or BLASTER=Axxx Ix Dy Ta
If you have both card installed, you can choose by
#hd=GUS or
#hd=SB
or use setup.exe
Please read carefully the files kdir.man and kara.man .
Note for GUS users with ultramid
--------------------------------
ultramid may be activated with
ultramid -16
for using patches in 16 bits.
For speed reasons the use of ram disk is recommended.
Some "heavy" midi files with many program changes may slow down the
song while loaded (mainly with the 16 bits choice). Don't know what to do.
Don't forget to remove ultramid with
ultramid -f
kdir.exe and kara.exe are written with borland C++
Minimal Requirement:
- a 386 or better
- CGA, EGA or VGA 256k (.bgi drivers)
- a GUS,
- or a SoundBlaster or GUS with an external midi expander on midi port,
- or a MPU401 (uart and complete mode) card,
- or an external MIDI box on serial output with an external expander,
- 1 Mbytes.
